The ALERT Project is a dedicated initiative under the Earth Island Institute, focused on empowering communities at risk from oil and chemical pollutants. The project aims to address chronic diseases linked to exposure through education, advocacy, and proactive legal measures. ALERT stands at the forefront of environmental justice, offering training programs designed to equip communities with the knowledge to recognize and combat the health risks associated with oil-chemical exposures, whether from industrial activities or disasters.

Through accessible science, the ALERT Project provides public talks and educational materials to raise awareness about the dangers of oil-related pollutants. By mobilizing local communities and fostering collaboration, the project works toward minimizing health impacts and promoting clean energy solutions. Furthermore, ALERT is involved in litigation to enforce and reform policies to better protect communities, recently leading to significant changes in EPA dispersant regulations. With a mission built on advocacy and education, the ALERT Project strives to enhance community resilience and create a healthier environment for all.
