Xadrez Alex

Associação Leopoldinense de Xadrez, known as ALEX, is a chess club in Rio de Janeiro that brings together people who enjoy playing over the board and taking part in a local chess community. The club welcomes members and friends to a calendar of in-person events and encourages new players to get involved through membership.

ALEX organizes regular tournaments, including rapid chess events typically held on Saturday afternoons. These competitions may use six rounds and a time control of 15 minutes plus a five-second increment per move; some count toward FIDE ratings, while others contribute to the club’s Rapid Circuit. Its program also features memorial tournaments, training events, women’s competitions and larger chess festivals. Results and champion photos help document participants’ achievements and the club’s tournament history.

For players looking to develop their skills, ALEX provides information about chess study, private lessons and its library. The club also shares event calendars, tournament updates and community news through its website and Telegram channel, helping members and visitors stay informed and plan their participation.
