Alhaníslam

Alhanislam is the creative and advocacy platform of Maryam Bukar Hassan, a Nigerian poet, spoken-word performer, storyteller, author, and social advocate. Born in Kaduna and raised with roots in Borno State, Maryam is known for performances that combine rhythmic expression, emotional depth, and a commitment to social justice. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Radford University College in Accra, Ghana, and serves as the United Nations Global Advocate for Peace.

Through poetry and public engagement, Alhanislam champions peace, gender equality, youth empowerment, and the dignity and visibility of marginalized communities. Her work has reached international audiences through performances and collaborations, including initiatives connected to the United Nations. Her offerings include the poetry album Layers, a collection exploring the experiences of Northern Nigerian girls, healing, and nationhood, and the book A Poet’s Attempt to Freeze Time. The platform also features True My Voice, which supports poets in digital advocacy, storytelling, and collaboration, alongside projects, tours, a podcast, and the Alhanislam Tutoring Centre.
