The Allegany County Animal Shelter serves as a beacon of hope for the lost, abandoned, and homeless animals in Allegany County. Located in Cumberland, this municipal shelter has transitioned from being a final stop for many animals to becoming a community-focused organization dedicated to animal welfare. Their mission emphasizes humane education, proactive animal care, and finding lasting homes for every healthy and behaviorally sound companion animal.

Among their key initiatives are various adoption programs for dogs and cats, a foster program, and community outreach efforts, including "Hounds Around Town" and "Seniors for Seniors." The shelter also engages with local veterinarians and provides resources for pet owners facing challenges. Through donations and volunteerism, they cultivate a compassionate environment for animals and their caregivers alike, actively working to create a more humane community. The Allegany County Animal Shelter truly embodies the spirit of public service and dedication to improving the lives of animals and their human companions.
