Al Mennie is an Irish big-wave surfing pioneer, ocean explorer, author and speaker whose work reflects four decades of surfing and exploring the North Atlantic. From Ireland’s early big-wave scene to the formative years of Nazaré, Portugal, his experience spans surfing, ocean expeditions, innovation, film and coastal projects. His contributions are recognised through a board and plaque on Nazaré’s Surfer Wall, exhibits at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, and an archive of more than 300 photographs, press clippings and documents held by Linen Hall Library.

Mennie offers keynote talks and speaking engagements for businesses, conferences, universities, schools and other organisations. His media work includes television, documentaries, commercial projects, factual presenting and expert contributions. He also provides production and expedition consulting for projects involving big-wave surfing, ocean exploration and challenging coastal environments. Historic photographs, footage, documents and first-hand accounts are available for suitable editorial and production use. Other areas connected with his work include coastal experiences, personal safety for women, surf research and projects on the Causeway Coast.
