The German Alpine Club’s Hannover Section is a community-based mountaineering and outdoor sports association in Hannover, with a membership of more than 6,000. As part of the Deutscher Alpenverein, it welcomes beginners and experienced participants, offering opportunities to learn, stay active and enjoy the outdoors together.
Its program includes courses, guided tours and group activities across a wide range of disciplines. Members can take part in hiking, trekking, mountaineering, indoor and outdoor climbing, bouldering, mountain biking, road cycling, gravel riding and winter sports. Courses cover different experience levels, from introductory rock-climbing instruction to advanced training and alpine tours, with qualified trainers. The section also supports youth groups, family activities and regular gatherings.
The association owns the Niedersachsenhaus in the Hohe Tauern, the Kansteinhütte on the Thüsterberg and GriffReich, a climbing and bouldering centre in Hannover’s Döhren district. GriffReich offers courses for newcomers, as well as climbing facilities with walls up to 15 metres high. The section also promotes environmental protection and sustainability, and provides information about membership, events and volunteering.
