Alpha Chi National College Honor Society is a prestigious honor society that has been recognizing exceptional student scholars since 1922. With a network of 300 chapters across 45 states and over 500,000 alumni, Alpha Chi is one of the top national honor societies in the nation. The society's name, Alpha Chi, derives from the Greek words Aletheia (Truth) and XAPAKTHP (Character), reflecting its commitment to fostering tenacity, respect, understanding, thoughtfulness, and humility among its members.
Alpha Chi's mission is to enhance the collegiate experience of its members by encouraging student creativity and research, promoting personal growth through diversity, fostering excellence and service, providing academic and professional mentoring, and exemplifying how scholarship can be used for good. The society believes in influencing the world for the better and creating a more enriching college experience for its student members. Alpha Chi chapters invigorate intellectual life on campus, offering numerous opportunities for engagement through lectures, debates, workshops, and publication opportunities.
The society also provides leadership and service opportunities, allowing members to develop valuable skills in project planning, public speaking, and organizational development. Additionally, Alpha Chi serves as a platform for collaboration among high-achieving students from different disciplines. Moreover, Alpha Chi offers a wide range of scholarships, fellowships, awards, and travel stipends to support undergraduate and graduate scholarship.
These incentives are particularly valuable for institutions without robust endowments. Alpha Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, the national accreditation association for university honor societies. For faculty and administrators interested in establishing an Alpha Chi chapter on their college campus, detailed information is available in the document Alpha Chi - Effective for Good.
