Alpha Design Furniture

Alpha Design Custom Furniture is a Berkeley, California studio founded by Hans Reinhardt in 2012. Rather than selling pieces selected from a showroom floor, the studio designs and builds custom furniture for individual rooms and the people who use them. Its commissions include sofas, sectionals, chairs, beds, and ottomans, made to clients’ style specifications and measured for their spaces. The workshop uses natural, ethically sourced wooden frames, quality springs, and a curated selection of fabrics in varied materials, patterns, and colors. Alpha Design emphasizes durable construction, with pieces intended to be reupholstered rather than quickly replaced.

Each commission follows a personal process: the studio discusses the room and its use, takes measurements, helps clients select frames, fills, and fabrics, and then has the furniture made in California. The team delivers, positions, and adjusts each piece in person. Based in Berkeley, Alpha Design serves Bay Area clients and works with homeowners, architects, and interior designers. Prospective clients can request a consultation to discuss a project with designer Hans Reinhardt.
