Altweltkamele

Altweltkamele e.V. is a nonprofit association dedicated to animal welfare, with a focus on the three biological species of Old World camel: the dromedary, the Bactrian camel and the wild camel. Its work addresses the responsible care and health of dromedaries and Bactrian camels in non-arid environments, while its wild-camel initiatives support species conservation. The association operates entirely through volunteer contributions and funds its projects through membership fees and donations.

Altweltkamele offers practical information and resources for camel keepers and professionals, including guidance on appropriate husbandry, health concerns, minerals, blood reference values and vitamin D. Its projects include fecal testing and a wild-camel DNA program. The organization also maintains a European Camel Herd Book, with registration and reading-access information, and provides a camel veterinary forum. Additional resources cover camel sales, transport regulations, animal-keeping guidance and the history of camels in Europe. Through these services and educational materials, Altweltkamele supports informed care, health and conservation of Old World camels.
