The Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation (ALVMF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2003 to support veterinary students and veterinary technicians through scholarships and endowments. Its work also includes animal welfare programs that promote animal wellbeing and strengthen the human-animal bond. The Foundation supports the Alabama Spay/Neuter Program, which has contributed more than $2 million back into Alabama’s veterinary community.
The program offers two ways for residents to help make spay and neuter services more accessible. Taxpayers can donate through a checkoff on their Alabama income tax return, while proceeds from statewide specialty license plate sales help offset surgery costs at participating veterinary hospitals. The Foundation also maintains a disaster relief fund to help reimburse out-of-pocket animal-care expenses and provides mobile animal sheltering units to communities affected by disasters. Other listed initiatives include scholarships, an urgent care fund, and disaster relief support. Individuals can get involved by donating or learning about the Foundation’s programs and participating clinics.
