About amaBhungane
Welcome to amaBhungane, an independent, non-profit newsroom based in South Africa. We are dedicated to developing investigative journalism to promote a free, capable media and an open, accountable, and just democracy. Our small team of investigators has brought information into the public domain, contributing to political and corporate changes that have had significant impact, including the resignation of South Africa’s president in 2018.
We have also been instrumental in supporting and developing investigative journalism by hosting fellows, conducting workshops, and collaborating with other centers across Southern Africa. In addition, we have advocated for information flows, improved access-to-information laws, and litigated successfully to preserve the public status of court records. We are committed to transparency, accountability, and bringing about change.
