About Side Gallery
Amber Films is a renowned film and photography collective that was established in 1968. With a strong commitment to documenting the lives and landscapes of the working class and marginalized communities, Amber has made a significant impact in North East England. In 1977, they opened Side Gallery, dedicated to showcasing the best in humanist documentary photography.
The AmberSide Collection is a testament to their dedication, featuring over 20,000 photographs, 100 films, 10,000 slides, and an extensive network of 400 stories. The UNESCO Memory of the World register has recognized Amber's films and the works of Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen, one of their collective members, as being of outstanding national value and importance to the United Kingdom. To secure this valuable collection and continue their important work, the AmberSide Trust was established in 2015.
With a team of talented filmmakers, photographers, curators, and archivists, Amber Films continues to push boundaries and capture the essence of real-life experiences. Be sure to visit their website to explore their collections, support their mission, and stay updated on their latest projects
