AMBER (Adaptive Management of Barriers in European Rivers) is an innovative project focused on restoring stream connectivity in Europe’s river systems while navigating the challenges posed by dams and barriers. Dedicated to addressing river fragmentation, AMBER employs adaptive management strategies, developing essential tools, models, and frameworks tailored for hydropower companies and river managers. Their goal is to balance ecological impacts with the benefits that these barriers provide, such as water supply, navigation, and energy production.

The initiative also emphasizes citizen science, engaging local communities and stakeholders in monitoring efforts and data collection to enhance restoration effectiveness. By creating tools like the AMBER Barrier Atlas and eDNA applications, the project prioritizes conservation areas and promotes habitat connectivity.
