AMCOW, also known as the African Ministers' Council on Water, is a Pan-African organization established in 2002 with the goal of promoting cooperation, security, social and economic development, and poverty eradication among member states. Their primary focus is on the effective management of Africa's water resources and the provision of water supply services. Under the mandate given by the African Union, AMCOW is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to accelerate the achievement of water and sanitation goals in Africa.

They have been designated as a Specialised Committee for Water and Sanitation within the African Union. AMCOW's mission is to provide political leadership, policy direction, and advocacy in the provision, use, and management of water resources for sustainable development and the preservation of African ecosystems. Their vision is to create an Africa where water resources are equitably and sustainably managed for poverty alleviation, socio-economic development, regional cooperation, and environmental protection.

AMCOW carries out various programmes and initiatives to achieve their mission and vision. These include the Africa Water Sector and Sanitation Monitoring and Reporting System, the AMCOW Pan-African Groundwater Program, the African Sanitation Policy Guidelines, and the Africa Water and Sanitation Week. Overall, AMCOW plays a crucial role in driving water management efforts in Africa, ensuring the well-being of both people and the environment
