Amici di Carola

Amici di Carola is an Italian nonprofit association founded in 2014 by Barbara and Marco Colombo after the loss of their six-year-old daughter, Carola, to diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a serious brainstem cancer. Created to turn their grief into practical support for other children, the association raises funds for scientific research into the disease, including research at Milan’s National Cancer Institute.

Its work is built around community involvement and fundraising. Amici di Carola organizes events such as sponsored walks, music gatherings, seasonal markets and the annual walk held in Carola’s memory. Supporters also help create and sell handmade items, including jewelry and small wooden objects, with proceeds contributing to the association’s cause. The organization shares news, event information and updates through its blog, and invites people to get involved through donations, sponsorship and participation. Individuals can support its work with a bank transfer or Italy’s five-per-thousand tax contribution. Guided by the hope that research will lead to better treatments, Amici di Carola brings families, friends and local supporters together to help advance scientific progress.
