Amigos dos Açores is an ecological association dedicated to defending and enhancing the environment and promoting nature conservation. It carries out its work through non-violent methods and activities spanning culture, education, science, sport, recreation and social engagement. The association encourages people to connect with the natural environment through organized walking trips, with published regulations and a code of conduct to guide participants.

Its program also includes environmental volunteering, such as ecological restoration work at Pinhal da Paz, and educational and community activities related to nature, wildlife and natural heritage. The organization shares information through its Vidália bulletin, other publications, presentations and reports, and provides resources including books, walking guides and brochures. Its online shop also lists merchandise.

Visitors can explore information about the Gruta do Carvão, the association’s history, governance and activities, as well as calendars of events and recent news. Amigos dos Açores also supports associative exchange and discussion about balancing public enjoyment of walking routes with conservation of the landscapes they cross
