About Am Phil Society
The American Philosophical Society (APS) is the oldest learned society in the United States, founded in 1743 by Benjamin Franklin with the intention of promoting useful knowledge. Today, in the 21st century, the APS carries on this mission through three key approaches. Firstly, they honor and engage renowned scholars, scientists, and professionals, welcoming them as elected members and fostering interdisciplinary fellowship during their semi-annual Meetings.
