About Amref Health Africa in the USA
Amref Health Africa is the largest Africa-based healthcare nonprofit, serving millions of people across 35 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Originally known as the Flying Doctors, Amref Health Africa began by providing surgical services to remote communities using light aircraft. Today, their priorities have expanded to strengthening health systems and training African health workers to address the continent's most critical health challenges.
Their approach is community-based, ensuring that the people they reach become partners in their own healthcare. With over 97% of their global staff being Africans, Amref Health Africa tackles African challenges with African expertise. They also have an office in the USA that raises awareness and critical funds for their work in Africa.
In 2021, an impressive 92% of funds raised went directly towards programming.
