About Anchorage Rowing
Anchorage Rowing Association (ARA) is an Alaska-based rowing organization dedicated to enriching the lives of its members and the wider community through the sport. Its programs welcome people at different stages of experience, from adults taking their first strokes to established junior and master-level rowers. ARA’s beginner classes are designed to make learning accessible, with no prior rowing experience required, and its First Strokes course offers adults a structured, welcoming introduction to the sport.
The association also supports experienced adult rowers, junior rowers, visiting rowers, and participants seeking private lessons. During the summer, members can use a fleet of boats ranging from singles to eights. ARA hosts community regattas and rowing events, including the Moose Nugget Regatta, the Dave Thorsness Rowing Challenge, and the Big Head Regatta.
Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the organization welcomes rowers across ages, backgrounds, identities, and abilities, and fosters camaraderie and fitness through participation. The Anchorage Rowing Association serves as a place to learn, develop skills, stay active, and connect with Alaska’s rowing community
