Angela Mele

Angela Mele is a scientific illustrator and interpretive planner whose work helps people connect with overlooked stories in history and the natural world. She creates illustrations for scientists, publishers, museums, and community organizations, with a focus on research and ideas that may be unfamiliar to the wider public or scientific community. Her subject areas include mycology, entomology, and cellular biology.

Mele translates scientific research into hand-rendered, digitally refined illustrations. Her work has been published by Cell Press, Yale University Press, the University of Chicago Press, and Mountaineers Books. She also produces conceptual illustrations for books and other uses, including academic book covers and chapter headings for scientific publications aimed at general readers.

Her public art includes murals for public sites, businesses, and private homes, designed to connect people with places or reinforce a brand identity. In addition to commissioned creative work, Mele leads workshops in scientific illustration, often for colleges with natural history collections, and offers individual lessons for learners of different ages and abilities.
