Animal Aware

Animal Aware, also known as AWARE, is a nonprofit animal welfare organization in Guatemala that has worked for more than 30 years to improve the lives of animals affected by abuse or abandonment. Guided by the belief that compassion should extend to all living creatures, the organization combines animal care with education and neutering campaigns to support lasting change. Its shelter just outside Sumpango, Sacatepéquez, currently cares for more than 300 dogs and 30 cats, all waiting for homes.

Animals in its care are neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed before adoption. Through its adoption program, Animal Aware offers adult dogs, puppies and young dogs, and cats to prospective families. The organization also invites the public to help through volunteering, donations, pet sponsorship, and sponsorship for cats with feline leukemia (FeLV).

Additional opportunities include corporate social responsibility, school and university involvement, and participation in its Solidarity Network. Animal Aware shares happy-ending and before-and-after stories, and provides updates through its newsletter and social media channels
