Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting dogs and the people who care for them, guided by the principle that every dog is an individual. Founded in 1985 as a horse rescue, the organization now works to build humane, inclusive communities through evidence-based programs, education, and advocacy. Its work draws on research from its subsidiary, the National Canine Research Council, which reports on the human-canine relationship and the effects of policies such as breed-specific legislation and housing insurance discrimination.
AFF consults with animal shelters nationwide on enrichment, training, outreach, and adoption practices, and provides toolkits and resources for governments, community groups, shelters, advocates, and dog owners. Its adoption program prepares dogs from shelters for new homes through training and enrichment. The Family Pantry program helps families keep their pets during difficult times, while the Old Friends Senior Dog Program connects senior shelter dogs with loving homes. At its 300-acre property in Dutchess County, New York, AFF also cares for rescued and retired farm animals.
