Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia

Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia (AFNCWV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing refuge, care, and aid for unwanted, abandoned, and abused animals. They strive to create a high-quality shelter where there is no unwarranted euthanasia, firmly believing that pets should not be killed simply because they have no homes. Their mission began with Lucky, an 11-year-old golden retriever/black lab mix who was mistreated and left to die.

Lucky made a full recovery, inspiring a small group of friends who had been fostering and caring for rescue animals for years. This group formed AFNCWV with the goal of making a difference for animals in need. Since 1999, AFNCWV has helped save the lives of over 7,000 animals.

They offer adoption services, providing a checklist to guide potential pet owners through the process. They also have a thrift shoppe, which supports their work, and offer spay/neuter assistance to help control the population of homeless animals.
