Animalhelpline Verein für Tiere in Not

Animalhelpline is a Bern-based animal welfare association whose work began in 1995 with a commitment to rescuing dogs from poor conditions. It supports animals and local caretakers through practical assistance, fundraising and long-term projects, with a focus on shelters and rescue efforts in southern Italy and Moldova. Its work has included organizing animal transports, providing medication and supplies, improving shelter facilities, and helping create safe outdoor areas for dogs. Projects have also supported cats through sterilization campaigns and the development of a cat shelter.

One of the association’s largest initiatives is the Rifugio in Casarano, where it helped renovate and expand facilities for dogs that are elderly, ill or too traumatized to be rehomed. Animalhelpline provides ongoing financial support to help maintain the refuge. The association is also working toward a secure space for street cats, where they can be sterilized and later released or placed for adoption. Donations and volunteer support help sustain its animal rescue and care projects.
