Animal Neighbours is a community-based project dedicated to mitigating human-wildlife conflict in urban areas. Founded by veterinarian Sharmini Julita Paramasivam, the project aims to increase awareness and promote coexistence between humans and wildlife. It all began in 2014 in Malaysia, following concerns about inhumane treatment of macaques, which were seen as pests encroaching on human settlements.

Sharmini's experience working with macaques in Indonesia led her to believe that a deeper understanding and long-term solution were needed. In 2016, Animal Neighbours became an official project at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey. Through crowdfunding, the project initiated education and awareness campaigns on human-wildlife conflict in both the UK and Malaysia.

Animal Neighbours continues to conduct research, advocacy, and education programs to promote responsible tourism and wildlife appreciation. Their vision is a harmonious ecosystem where humans and wildlife coexist, and their mission is to improve human-animal relationships through education, research, and advocacy. Their logo, designed by veterinarian Ben Capehorn, symbolizes the central role of humans in mitigating conflict and features common animals found in shared spaces.
