About Animal Pain Research Institute
The Animal Pain Research Institute (APRI) is an interdisciplinary research organization focused on advancing scientific understanding of pain and distress across species. Its work connects human and animal health, exploring how shared genetics and genetic and ecological approaches can inform strategies to prevent pathological pain and improve welfare. APRI’s areas of interest include people, farm animals, laboratory animals, pets, and wild animals, reflecting its cross-species perspective.
The institute brings researchers and collaborators together through case studies, conferences, and events addressing affective behavior, genetics, animal breeding and production, and ways to relieve distress in humans and animals. Its programs also consider the scientific, ethical, and legal perspectives involved in animal welfare. APRI shares information about its activities through its website and newsletter, and invites public support through donations. Researchers and interested participants can find opportunities to get involved, including internship and job openings. As a registered 501(c)(3) organization, APRI aims to advance research and therapeutic strategies that reduce pain and distress across species.
