About Anishinabek Nation
Anishinabek Nation is the oldest political organization in Ontario, representing 39 member First Nations across the province. Established in 1949, the Anishinabek Nation established the Union of Ontario Indians (UOI) as its secretariat to legally represent the nation and enter into binding agreements. With a combined population of approximately 65,000 citizens, the Anishinabek Nation serves as a political advocate and delivers various programs and services to its member nations.
The organization is divided into four strategic regional areas: Southwest, Southeast, Lake Huron, and Northern Superior, each represented by a Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief. The Anishinabek Nation's head office is located in Nipissing First Nation, with satellite offices in Fort William First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and Munsee Delaware Nation. Offering programs and services in areas such as Health, Social Development, Education, Economic Development, Lands and Resources, and Legal, the Anishinabek Nation ensures collective action on individual and group issues through Chief-in-Assembly resolutions.
Governed by a Board of Directors and led by a Grand Council Chief and Regional Deputy Grand Council Chiefs, the Anishinabek Nation's mission is to unite and empower its member First Nations
