Anju Chaudhuri is an Indian-born painter and printmaker whose work brings together influences from Indian and Western artistic traditions. Born in Calcutta in 1944, she studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda, completed painting studies in Calcutta, and continued her education in London, Paris and Amsterdam. She learned printmaking with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris and later settled in Paris, maintaining connections with artists across Europe.
Nature and the five elements—air, fire, water, earth and ether—are central sources of inspiration in Chaudhuri’s practice. Her work spans paintings in oil and acrylic, watercolours, drawings, prints, monotypes and other works on paper. Her artistic activities also include book editions and illustration, including In Praise of Krishna. The artist’s website presents her work, exhibitions, museum collections, awards and press coverage, and offers information about purchasing artworks. Visitors can also explore her studio, attend open-studio events and workshops, and follow an introduction to the ideas and experiences behind her painting.
