Antietam Historical Association

Antietam Historical Association is a regional historical organization dedicated to interpreting the history of the area drained by Antietam Creek and its tributaries in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and Washington County, Maryland. Through research, publications, educational programs, and fellowship, the Association brings attention to the people, places, and events that have shaped this region. Its work spans subjects including local communities, military and Civil War history, genealogy, and the area’s cultural heritage.

The Association offers opportunities to explore these topics through events and study groups, as well as maps and publications such as The Rivulet, The Potomac Street Irregulars, Waynesboro – As We Knew It, and Civil War books. Its activities include annual meetings featuring illustrated talks by historians and other speakers, exhibits of historical artifacts, and presentations on subjects such as Walter Reed and copper mining around South Mountain. The Association also supports a fellowship community and hereditary societies, recognizing connections to regional history and encouraging careful, accurate historical study
