AMD Antik Modellflugfreunde

AMD Antik Modellflugfreunde Deutschland is a community for enthusiasts of vintage and retro model aircraft. The group considers aircraft models dating from the early days of aviation through around 1960 to be antique models, while also welcoming builders and pilots of later retro designs. Many antique models are faithful or loosely faithful reproductions built from historic plans rather than surviving originals.

Members favor traditional materials such as plywood, pine, bamboo and balsa, with coverings including Japanese paper, silk and paper-like polyester fabric. Remote control is standard, and electric power is increasingly common, though period petrol and diesel engines can still be seen. Foam models are not part of the group’s focus. Antique aircraft typically fly slowly and steadily, making the hobby relaxed and accessible.

The organization supports its community through more than a dozen antique model flying gatherings across Germany. Its main annual event is a flying week in early September at slopes and airfields around the Wasserkuppe.
