The APAC Liver Disease Alliance is dedicated to preventing and controlling liver disease in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. As advocates, they raise awareness about the burden of liver diseases and emphasize the value of effective prevention and control measures. They actively campaign for political commitment in the APAC region to ensure sustainable access to liver disease care for patients. The alliance provides evidence-based guidance to policymakers, contributing to equitable access and improved liver health outcomes in APAC, benefiting both health systems and society.

Liver disease is a significant concern in the APAC region, with almost two-thirds of global liver-related deaths occurring there. Cirrhosis, liver cancer, and acute viral hepatitis are the leading causes of liver-related deaths. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) specifically is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Cirrhosis is mainly caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), alcohol consumption, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

The APAC Liver Disease Alliance aims to create a credible platform for policy discussions and campaigns on liver diseases, lead coordinated advocacy activities, demonstrate the urgency and true burden of liver diseases, and generate evidence to support policy-making and implementation. They also promote knowledge, research, and international collaboration.
