The Addiction Prevention Coalition (APC) is a nonprofit community resource serving Central Alabama and the greater Birmingham area. Formerly known as The Freedom Source, APC has supported the community for more than 15 years, working to prevent substance use disorder, promote recovery, and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction. Its mission brings together education, recovery support, and community partnerships, guided by a vision of helping people find hope, resilience, and connection.
APC offers in-school prevention programs, community education, events, and support services. Its work focuses on awareness, prevention, and connection: encouraging open conversations about substance use, sharing educational resources, and linking people with help and recovery support. The organization also provides information and resources related to finding help, overdose prevention, and safe medication disposal, including its nCase ONEbox initiative. APC invites community members and organizations to join its coalition, access resources, and take part in local prevention efforts. Through compassionate, innovative, and persistent collaboration, APC aims to help people seek support without judgment and strengthen efforts to prevent addiction across the region.
