The Asia Pacific Foundation for Infectious Diseases (APFID) is the first international foundation in Asia dedicated to combating infectious diseases. Despite significant advancements in modern medicine, infectious diseases continue to pose a serious threat to public health and remain the leading cause of death worldwide. The widespread emergence of antimicrobial resistance has further complicated the battle against these diseases.

Recognizing the global impact of antimicrobial resistance and the rise of newly emerging infectious diseases, such as SARS and avian influenza, APFID aims to improve global health through Asian initiatives. The foundation strengthens and coordinates research-related activities on infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, both nationally and internationally.

APFID supports the 'Asian Network for Surveillance of Resistant Pathogens (ANSORP)' and conducts basic research through the 'Asian Bacterial Bank (ABB)' and the 'Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI)'. Furthermore, APFID organizes the 'International Symposium on Antimicrobial Agents and Resistance (ISAAR)' in order to facilitate the exchange of scientific information on infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance in the Asia-Pacific region.

APFID's integrated systems, including the SuperU campaign program, work together to achieve the foundation's mission and vision for the future. Through collaboration with institutions, organizations, industries, and academic societies, APFID strives to contribute to the improvement of public health in the Asia-Pacific region.
