Aphasia

AphasiaNZ is a dedicated charitable trust focused on supporting individuals affected by aphasia, a communication disorder resulting from brain injury or disease. The term "aphasia" refers to the partial or total loss of the ability to articulate ideas or comprehend spoken and written language, often arising from strokes, head injuries, or conditions like Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). AphasiaNZ offers a range of services designed to assist those impacted by this condition, including education and training, community support groups known as Kōrero Clubs, and a resource library equipped with helpful booklets and tools such as aphasia wallet cards.

The organization also provides a Community Aphasia Advisor (CAA) service and opportunities to participate in themed Aphasia Days. By fostering understanding and acceptance, AphasiaNZ seeks to empower individuals with aphasia, enabling them to engage in everyday activities and maintain connections with their loved ones. Through its initiatives, the trust plays a vital role in raising awareness and offering vital support to the aphasia community in New Zealand
