To achieve its mission, Apollo Research plans to develop a comprehensive model evaluation suite that includes behavioral tests, fine-tuning, and interpretability approaches. This will allow them to detect deception and other misaligned behaviors in AI systems. They also intend to conduct interpretability research to create evaluations that delve beyond surface-level behavior and enable direct interrogation and editing of model cognition.

Aside from their research efforts, Apollo Research will provide technical expertise in auditing and model evaluation to assist lawmakers. Their team consists of eight experienced researchers and engineers with a background in AI safety and machine learning.
