Apollo Swimming Club

The Apollo Swimming Club for the Physically Disabled of Yeovil and District is a registered UK charity serving people with physical disabilities in Yeovil, Sherborne and the wider South Somerset area. Founded by Dr Brian Madden, the club grew from his use of hydrotherapy and swimming to support rehabilitation for people with physical impairments caused by injury or longer-term conditions.

The club’s mission is to encourage, promote and develop activities, including swimming and sailing, while providing recreational opportunities that support members’ quality of life through community and social connection. Its programme includes twice-weekly swimming sessions, offering members a regular opportunity to take part in an activity central to the organisation’s rehabilitation roots. Social events also help bring members together throughout the year. These include skittle evenings and table-top sales, as well as an annual Christmas party and a visit to NASCH Woodlarks Summer Camp.

Through its activities and social calendar, Apollo Swimming Club combines recreation with a supportive community for physically disabled people in the local area.
