About APRSpedia
APRSpedia is a collaborative reference resource devoted to the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS), a digital communications protocol used primarily by amateur radio operators. It explains how APRS enables the exchange of real-time information over radio frequencies, including positions, GPS coordinates, messages, bulletins, weather reports and alerts, station capabilities, telemetry, and user-defined data. The site presents APRS as a two-way, local and global communications system for sharing information among network participants, rather than simply a vehicle-tracking tool.
APRSpedia organizes material on the APRS standard and related topics into sections covering data specifications, protocols, AX.25 frames, data types, symbol tables, terminology, and reference materials. It also provides lists of APRS hardware and software, including trackers, terminal node controllers, and packet bulletin board systems, as well as information about messaging and message bots. Described as a living document, APRSpedia invites users to register and contribute by adding pages or updating existing content, helping keep its information accurate and current.
