The Australasian Professional Society on Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD) is a multidisciplinary professional organisation serving people working in the alcohol and other drug field across Australia, New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific. It aims to improve standards of clinical practice and support professionals addressing substance-related health and social challenges. APSAD connects members across disciplines and provides opportunities for learning, collaboration and research exchange.
Its activities include professional development courses, credentialling, smoking cessation training, webinars, symposia and an annual scientific conference showcasing research on substance use, prevention and treatment. APSAD publishes Drug and Alcohol Review, an internationally recognised scientific journal, and offers members resources such as newsletters, discussion forums, listservs and publication guidance. The organisation also shares policy submissions, advocacy statements, media releases and educational materials, and recognises contributions through awards for clinicians, researchers, mentors and people with lived experience. APSAD supports early- and mid-career professionals through networking, funding information and development initiatives. It is developing a Tobacco Treatment Specialist Finder to help the public locate cessation support.
