About Ara
Ara Institute of Canterbury is a vibrant and progressive government-funded tertiary institute, offering world-class education in the Canterbury and Waitaki region. With a rich history and over 200 years of combined experience from its predecessor institutions, Ara was established in 2016 through the merger of CPIT and Aoraki Polytechnic. At Ara, our mission is to empower students to create better futures by providing them with relevant courses and real-life learning environments.
Our courses are taught by inspiring mentors, and our industry partnerships and supportive community contribute to our students' success. We continuously update our learning models and course content to meet industry and regional needs. To ensure our students are work-ready, we offer workplace training opportunities, internships, and apprenticeships.
We also provide flexible study options through online, blended delivery, and part-time programs. With a low student-to-tutor ratio and comprehensive support services, our inclusive and technology-enhanced study environment fosters meaningful learning experiences. Whether students choose to study on our campuses or online, they graduate with internationally recognized qualifications, valuable industry connections, and the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
