The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) stands as the foremost literary accolade in the Arab world, established to honor exceptional contemporary Arabic literature. Launched in 2007 in Abu Dhabi, IPAF aims to elevate the profile of Arabic novels globally by rewarding the year's best fiction in Arabic. The prize is not only a means to recognize outstanding writers but also to promote their works through translation into major languages, fostering a wider readership.
Each year, a panel of five judges, including a diverse international member, evaluates over 150 submitted novels to shortlist six finalists before selecting the winner. The winning author receives a monetary prize of $50,000, supplemented by IPAF’s commitment to cover translation costs for the winning novel into English. This recognition often leads to increased sales and international interest in the authors' works. Furthermore, IPAF is dedicated to supporting emerging writers through initiatives like Nadwa, a workshop aimed at nurturing new literary talent in Arabic fiction.
