ARALEP is a freshwater ecology consultancy based on the LyonTech–La Doua campus in Villeurbanne, France. Founded in 1974 as an association of public laboratories, it became a private organisation in 2001 and has since developed expertise in research, assessment and consulting for rivers, lakes and other freshwater environments. The team supports clients in evaluating water and ecosystem quality, understanding the effects of human activities, and managing natural resources sustainably.

ARALEP combines fieldwork, laboratory analysis and project management across fundamental and applied studies. Its expertise spans aquatic life, from diatoms and other microalgae to macroinvertebrates, including crayfish, and fish. The organisation also assesses water and sediment chemistry, flow conditions, habitats, riverbank vegetation and sediment transport. Its services include environmental impact studies and monitoring for infrastructure and energy projects, pollution assessment—including micropollutants—and biological quality assessments using recognised ecological indices. ARALEP also works on ecosystem function, wildlife monitoring, ecological restoration and territorial river programmes, and produces scientific and technical publications.
