About ARCAS Guatemala
ARCAS is a non-profit Guatemalan Civil Association established in 1989 by citizens concerned about the rapid loss of the country’s natural heritage, particularly its wildlife. The organization works from three main project areas: Guatemala City, Petén, and Hawaii on Guatemala’s southern Pacific coast. Its work includes wildlife protection and rescue, environmental activities, community development, environmental education, and efforts to address wildlife trafficking through enforcement.
ARCAS also supports networking and fundraising to sustain its conservation work. In Petén, its Wildlife Rescue Center cares for rescued animals and is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries for meeting its standards in humane animal care. The organization offers volunteer and internship opportunities in Petén and Hawaii, alongside a veterinary program.
These opportunities bring participants into its conservation projects and help involve supporters in its work. ARCAS also invites individuals and organizations to contribute through donations, sponsorship, and other forms of support. Through its projects and partnerships, ARCAS works to protect Guatemala’s wildlife and natural heritage
