Archeology Ink is a research journal focused on the archaeology and history of the southeastern United States, particularly the northern Gulf Coast, Pensacola, and southwest Alabama. Led by archaeologist Caleb Curren, the site publishes peer-reviewed articles that are available free of charge, with readers asked to cite their sources. Its coverage includes Native communities, Spanish expeditions, and ongoing investigations into significant sixteenth-century sites.
Visitors can explore dedicated collections of articles about the expeditions of Tristan de Luna and Hernando de Soto, along with Native history and other related topics. The journal also features videos, including material on Bayou Chico’s history and documentaries examining Spanish exploration and proposed routes through Alabama. Recent articles discuss the possible location of the 1559 Luna settlement, Spanish-Native contact sites, and historical interpretations.
Archeology Ink also presents Curren’s book, Finding the First Europeans: Archeology on the Lower Alabama River, which examines research into the location of Mabila and the Settlement of the Sacred Cross. The site shares publication information and accepts tax-deductible sponsorship donations by mail.
