The Archives Unleashed Project

Archives Unleashed is a project focused on making large collections of historical web content accessible to scholars and others researching the recent past. Its team develops tools that help users search, analyze, share, and investigate web archives, supporting the work of scholars, librarians, and archivists. The project’s resources include the Archives Unleashed Toolkit, Archives Unleashed Cloud, Archives Unleashed Notebooks, and Warclight, alongside guides and opportunities to get involved through events, publications, and project cohorts.

Supported by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Archives Unleashed works in partnership with the Internet Archive. The project has also identified integration with the Archive-It service as part of its plans to strengthen the Cloud’s long-term sustainability and improve the usability and accessibility of web archives. Through its software, learning resources, and collaborations, Archives Unleashed helps people explore the history preserved across the web, including materials dating from the early days of the World Wide Web. Its work connects archival collections with practical research methods, making historical internet content more usable for investigation and discovery.
