We provide direct services and advocacy to assist those we serve in achieving their highest level of personal independence and self-sufficiency and help over 1,000 individuals daily either at our agency locations or in homes, businesses or community settings. VistAbility is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1965 by families of people with developmental disabilities and mental health needs. Serving Contra Costa and Alameda counties, it provides community-based, person-centered support to more than 1,000 adults, children, and families each day. Its mission is to enrich lives by supporting families, fostering independence, and encouraging personal choice.
The organization offers a range of services, including community access programs, employment services, internships, and tailored day services. Support for children and families includes early-start programs, after-school care, parent support, child care solutions, and behavioral health services. These programs are designed to help people build skills, explore opportunities, and participate in their communities.
VistAbility also operates Good Stuff Thrift Shops, which sell donated clothing, jewelry, accessories, and other secondhand finds. Proceeds support the organization’s mission. In addition to direct services, VistAbility shares its history and disability-related perspectives through documentary and media projects.
