Arctic SDI

Arctic SDI is a collaborative initiative involving the national mapping agencies of Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the USA, aimed at developing a comprehensive Arctic Spatial Data Infrastructure. This organization facilitates access to authoritative geographical data, digital maps, and analytical tools essential for informed decision-making and monitoring in the Arctic region. By publishing selected datasets from a variety of stakeholders, Arctic SDI ensures that politicians, governments, scientists, and citizens can readily access vital information.

Key offerings include the Arctic SDI Geoportal, which hosts interactive digital mapping resources, a Metadata Catalogue for data organization, and tools for searching locations through the Gazetteer Service. Additional support is provided through various working groups focused on technical and operational policies, ensuring continual development and enhancement of these services. The Arctic SDI operates under a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding, promoting voluntary cooperation among member agencies to advance shared goals and priorities in the Arctic.
