Arctic Institute

The Arctic Institute of North America (AINA) is a nonprofit research and educational organization affiliated with the University of Calgary. Established by an Act of Parliament in 1945, it advances understanding of the North American and circumpolar Arctic through research, education, and the preservation and sharing of information about northern environments and communities. AINA works with northern and Indigenous organizations, researchers, and public and private institutions in Canada and internationally.

Its work spans the natural and social sciences, arts, and humanities. The Institute operates the Kluane Lake Research Station in Yukon, providing infrastructure for research and education, and manages ADA: Arctic Discovery & Access, a digital service offering scientific publications, project information, educational resources, research data-management materials, virtual exhibits, and archival collections. AINA also publishes Arctic, an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal featuring original research on polar and subpolar regions. Other offerings include scholarships, outreach, research data and collections, and opportunities to support the Institute through membership and donations.
