About ARCUS Project
ARCUS Project is an artist-in-residence and learning organization based in Moriya, Ibaraki, Japan. Launched in 1994 with Ibaraki Prefecture as its organizer, it creates opportunities for exchange through contemporary art, bringing together artists and local residents across nationalities and generations. Its residency programs support internationally active artists in developing research-led practices during stays in the region.
ARCUS welcomes projects and ideas shaped by encounters with people, place, and culture, and shares works in progress through open studios. Related initiatives include ARCUS Research, the Exchange Residency Program, and AIR Bridge. Alongside residencies, ARCUS offers learning activities for people of different ages, including workshops, talks, and lectures.
These programs encourage participants to think, make, and work collaboratively with diverse communities, while exploring how encounters with art and artists can enrich everyday life and local culture. Through its residency and community programs, ARCUS connects artistic practice with learning and public participation, offering a setting for creative exchange and sustained dialogue in Ibaraki
