Ardgillan Castle is a stunning country house located near Balbriggan, County Dublin, Ireland. Nestled within the picturesque 200-acre Ardgillan Demesne, which is a public park managed by Fingal County Council, this captivating castle offers a remarkable experience for visitors. Originally known as Prospect House, Ardgillan Castle was constructed in 1738 by Robert Taylor, with additional wings added later in the 1800s.
Despite being referred to as a castle, it is actually a grand country-style house adorned with castellated embellishments. Its name, Ardgillan, derives from Ard Choill, meaning High Wood, highlighting its origins in a heavily wooded area. The castle consists of two floors above a basement, with the ground and first floors serving as living quarters and the wings designated for estate offices and servant quarters.
