In 2004, Dr. David Tabrett noticed the pressure local vets faced when providing medical care beyond general practice clinic hours. He established the region's first after-hours emergency animal hospital, known as Newcastle Animal and Referral Emergency Centre (NAREC), now simplified to AREC. Over the years, we've expanded our services and premises, occupying the entire building at 4 Lang Rd, Broadmeadow.

Our facility boasts a comfortable waiting area, consultation rooms, treatment spaces, surgical suite, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, pathology lab, and more. We treat approximately 10,000 pets and their humans every year.
